Every company is required to fulfil a variety of legal obligations:

  • Laws/Ordinances on the level of the EU, states, and possible federal/regional governments EU, national, state and regional laws and regulations
  • Local authority statutes
  • Rules of the employers’ liability insurance association
  • Approvals

Which laws, ordinances and approvals apply to my company?

Your company must therefore first systematically determine which laws and ordinances it must adhere to under environmental, energy and occupational safety-related legislation.

After all: Your company cannot adhere to the requirements pursuant to environmental, energy and occupational safety-related legislation, if it is not first systematically determined which laws and ordinances actually apply to your company.

Icon Question

You must therefore ask yourself this question:

Do you know which

  • Laws and ordinances on the level of the EU, states, and possible federal/regional governments EU, national, state and regional laws and regulations
  • Local authority statutes
  • Rules of the employers’ liability insurance association und
  • Approvals

your company is actually required to adhere to?

If you already have an index of legal provisions:

  • Is your index of legal provisions still up-to-date?

Index of legal provisions – Step 1:  Identify all environmental, energy and occupational safety-related legislation:

First of all, all laws, ordinances, statues and rules of the employers’ liability insurance association focussing on environmental, energy and occupational safety-related legislation relevant to companies must be identified.

Index of legal provisions – Step 2:  Systematically determine the laws, ordinances etc. that your company must adhere to.

From the entirety of environmental, energy and occupational safety-related legislation, you must systematically identify and select the laws, ordinances, statues and rules of the employers’ liability insurance association that your company is actually required to adhere to.

Whether a law, ordinance etc. applies to your company is defined within the scope of the respective law or ordinance, which is generally described in the initial paragraphs. There it is defined in detail which companies or systems etc. this standard applies to and, if applicable, which companies, systems etc. are excluded from the standard.

The laws and ordinances etc. that apply to your company are marked as “relevant” laws, ordinances etc.

Index of legal provisions – Step 3: Regularly update the index of legal provisions

The EU, national/state/regional governments and the employers’ liability insurance associations regularly pass new regulations or amend existing ones. It is therefore essential that you regularly update a generated index of legal provisions, as otherwise you will not have determined which regulations your company must actually adhere to.
